Salapat Rental Protection — Terms
This protection is optional. You choose it when you request a booking, and it costs a flat 10 percent of the rental subtotal (the team may change this rate; the rate shown at checkout is the one that applies to your booking). It is paid by the renter and is not refundable once a rental has started.
WHAT IT COVERS
Accidental physical damage to the rented item during your rental period, and loss or theft of the item during your rental period, up to the item fair replacement value as assessed by the Salapat team.
WHAT IT DOES NOT COVER
- Normal wear and tear.
- Damage caused on purpose, or by clear misuse or neglect (for example water damage from using gear in the rain against the owner instructions, or leaving equipment unattended in public).
- Damage or loss reported after the item has been returned and accepted by the owner.
- Indirect losses such as lost income, missed jobs, or data on memory cards.
- Items used for any illegal activity.
IF YOU DID NOT ADD PROTECTION
If you chose not to add protection and the item is damaged or lost, you (the renter) are responsible for the repair or replacement cost. The Salapat team will mediate between you and the owner and record what is agreed.
HOW A CLAIM WORKS
1. The owner reports the problem from their Requests page and uploads photos. This opens a claim and pauses the booking.
2. Our team reviews the claim, the pickup and return condition photos, and both sides.
3. We approve a settlement amount (paid from protection funds when the rental was protected) or reject the claim, and we email both people the outcome. Decisions by the Salapat team are final for the purposes of this protection.
YOUR RESPONSIBILITIES
Inspect the item at pickup, use it normally and safely, keep it with you, and return it on time in the same condition. Taking your own photos at pickup and return protects you if there is ever a disagreement.
